A LUCKY SHOT WRAPS BANG ON!
Released: January 21, 2000
(REGINA) Principal photography wrapped right on schedule for A Lucky Shot, produced by Minds Eye Entertainment of Regina in association with Thomega Entertainment of Saskatoon. The feature was filmed in and around Prince Albert National Park, showcasing the resort town of Waskesiu and nearby Elkridge development.
A Lucky Shot stars Craig Sheffer (The Fall, A River Runs Through It) as Dr. Paul Venters, a self-centred plastic surgeon who takes his brother-in-law-to-be Marty, an ex-con and recovering addict played by Corey Haim (The Lost Boys), to a remote northern location to hunt elk. While hunting, they shoot a park officer, and instead of reporting the accident, try to flee town in a series of ill-fated attempts. Investigating the homicide is Jennifer Beals (Flashdance) as Park Warden Sam Wilkes, whose calm resolve leads her through the wilderness to the murderer. In a supporting role, Gabrielle Anwar (Scent of a Woman) appears as Dr. Venter's fiancee and Marty's sister, Susan.
The film also features Saskatchewan actors Ian Black (Big Bear) as park officer Nick, Iain MacLean (Stranger in Town) as Dan the tracker, Dan MacDonald (Something More) as Leo the helicopter pilot, and Blaine Hart (The Lost Daughter). In addition, seven Saskatoon actors have speaking roles.
A Lucky Shot is directed by Genie-nominated Rob King (Something More, Talker) and written by Canadian Peter Layton. Executive producers are Kevin DeWalt and Susan Cooper. Producers are Kevin DeWalt and Rhonda Baker, associate producer is Tony Towstego. Director of photography is Ken Krawczyk, c.s.c.
As the first of eight action thrillers of the recently announced "Saskatoon Initiative," A Lucky Shot employed sixteen Saskatoon and area residents: ten in key positions and six as trainees.
"This film represented a giant step forward for the Saskatoon motion picture industry. We exceeded our training goals and at the same time, provided "off season" opportunity to seasoned crew. It's a great start for our long-term goal of creating one hundred jobs for Saskatoon residents," says C.E.O of Minds Eye Entertainment, Kevin DeWalt.
The Saskatoon Initiative's primary objective is to create a skilled labour base of local crew for the thriving motion picture industry. Minds Eye Entertainment will shoot seven more motion pictures in Saskatoon and area over the next two years. This initiative will create immediate employment, train newcomers to the industry and at the same time, foster continued growth in the motion picture sector.
Established in 1986, Minds Eye Entertainment is a fully integrated production, post-production and distribution entity with offices in Canada and the U.S. Its award-winning feature films, television series, shorts and documentaries have been sold in more than 100 countries.
