August 28, 2000
[REGINA, SK CANADA]- Principal photography began today on Sins of the Father starring Andy Garcia (Desperate Measures, The Untouchables, the Godfather Part III) as Michael Hunter, a psychologist with a troubled past who slowly unravels the gruesome history of his new teenage patient.
Sins of the Father is produced by Tom Berry of New Legend Media, in association with Minds Eye Entertainment. Story by Christopher Murphey, screenplay by Miguel Tejada-Flores and Scott Williams. Tom McLoughlin is director, Lloyd Ahern is d.o.p.
Executive producer Kevin DeWalt brought the picture to Saskatchewan to jump start what will be the province's biggest production year to date. Early estimates indicate Minds Eye will commandeer more than $55 million in production this year alone, a significant increase over year's past.
Sins of the Father is the largest feature film shot in the province date, with a budget of $22 million. During its term of production, it will employ over 65 crew, several local cast and more than 200 local extras. Originally, the film was to shoot some scenes in Moose Jaw, however due to availability of locations and travel costs, a majority of scenes will be shot in Regina, Lumsden and surrounding area. The shoot will continue until the third week in September.
DeWalt is enthusiastic about the picture and its future prospects. "It's great to see that Saskatchewan is attracting a project of the size and quality of Sins of the Father. Minds Eye is thrilled to be working with Tom Berry and New Legend Media on what will be the first of several projects together," he says.
