“SEVEN TIMES LUCKY” HONOURED IN L.A.

April 12, 2004

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Writer-director Gary Yates’ feature film “Seven Times Lucky”, produced in Winnipeg with Liz Jarvis of Buffalo Gal Pictures, was a double winner at the annual Method Fest Film Festival in Los Angeles. Yates accepted awards for Best Picture and Best Screenplay at a gala banquet Saturday night in Burbank, California.

This is a great honour for Winnipeg and for everyone who worked on the film,” said Yates accepting the Best Picture award. “Winnipeg is a great place to make movies,” he told the crowd of 300-plus industry folk. “I can’t wait to do this again.”

Los Angeles Times film critic Kevin Thomas described the film as “A dizzyingly elaborate, adroit neo-noir,” noting it was the strongest film he’d seen at the festival.

Seven Times Lucky, starring veteran actor Kevin Pollak, premiered last January to rousing ovations at the Sundance Film Festival where it was greeted with stellar reviews and sold-out crowds.

Named for the “Stanislavski Method” which brought truth and realism to the world of acting, the Method Fest is the only major film festival in the U.S. that pays homage to the actor, seeking breakout acting performances of emerging stars and established actors in story-driven independent films.
