Reality, fantasy and mythology meld as MythQuest premieres on Showcase
REGINA, SK- Discover a heart-pounding secret with the power to unravel the truth about creation itself. MythQuest, the 13-part hour long action adventure series aimed at pre-teens and their families is set to premiere this Saturday, August 25, at 3:00pm ET on Showcase, Canada's premiere specialty cable network. After eight months of filming in Regina, SK and Calgary, AB, Showcase will be the first network to broadcast the $22 million series. National networks PBS in the U.S. and CBC will premiere the series early in 2002.
Combining live action drama and sophisticated computer-generated images, MythQuest follows contemporary teens Alex and Cleo Bellows as they cross into a cyberworld of mythic imagination. Like a magic looking glass, a computer screen becomes a gateway to the kingdom of myths: a gateway into which their own father, a celebrated archaeologist, disappeared. Now on a quest to find him, Alex and Cleo must test their own heroism as they cross into a cyberworld of mythic imagination.
The first episode, "The Minotaur", begins with the disappearance of Alex & Cleo's father. While searching for clues they discover the portal into the AlterWorld of myth and legend. Transported to the AlterWorld of Greek mythology, Alex becomes Theseus, an Athenian prince sent along with other Athenians to Crete as part of a regular sacrifice to the hideous Minotuar, a deadly half-man, half-bull who lives in the caverns under the city.
MythQuest introduces Christopher Jacot (The Famous Jett Jackson) as Alex Bellows and Meredith Henderson (The Adventures of Shirley Holmes) as his wheelchair-bound sister Cleo. In supporting roles are Wendy Anderson (Incredible Story Studio) as their mother Lily, Joseph Kell (Port Charles) as their missing father Matt, and Mathew Walker (Mysterious Ways) as Max Asher, teacher and mentor to Matt and his teens.
The series also boasts a long list of stellar guest stars such as Lawrence Dane (Waking the Dead) as King Minos and Dominic Zamprogna (Edgemont Road) as Kadilus in "The Minotaur." Series directors Paul Schneider (JAG), Steve Scaini (Goosebumps), Rob King (Incredible Story Studio), Nicholas Kendall (Caitlin's Way), and Manfred Guthe (Butterbox Babies).
