EARNS PRESTIGIOUS ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARD IN MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT CATEGORY


October 15, 2002 (Regina, SK) – Kevin DeWalt, Chairman and C.E.O of Minds Eye Entertainment, Western Canada’s largest independent film and television production company earned the prestigious Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (EOY) in the Media and Entertainment category. The awards ceremony was held on Thursday, October 10 in Calgary.

“The EOY program is recognized for its commitment to promoting the economic benefits of entrepreneurship and I am honoured to be included among all the industry leaders in the prairies,” says Kevin DeWalt, Chairman and C.E.O of Minds Eye Entertainment.

Founded by Ernst and Young, the Entrepreneur of the Year program celebrates great entrepreneurs and heightens awareness of the economic effect of entrepreneurial ventures. Winners in each industry category compete for the title of Prairies Entrepreneur Of The Year. The Prairies EOY award recipient advances to the national level to compete with counterparts from the Pacific, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic regions for the title of Canada's Entrepreneur Of The Year, to be announced November 7th in Ottawa. In June 2003, Canada's Entrepreneur Of The Year recipient will join over 20 country recipients participating in the international competition for the title of World Entrepreneur Of The Year.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Minds Eye Entertainment Chairman and C.E.O Kevin DeWalt has produced over 40 film and television projects and has spearheaded the development of regional production company into an internationally-recognized, vertically-integrated organization which includes subsidiaries in new media, distribution, and post-production.

As both a producer and executive producer, he has been instrumental in establishing the Western film and television industry with exceptional, exportable projects that have been sold to over 100 territories around the world. He is currently producing a 22 episode legal drama Just Cause for PAX TV in the U.S. and W Network in Canada. Most recently, he has executive produced the television movie Betrayed, directed by Anne Wheeler for CBC TV; season two of the action adventure teen series 2030CE for YTV; season four of the children’s series Mentors for Family Channel and season one of MythQuest for PBS in the U.S. and CBC Television in Canada.
