ALBERTA ANNOUNCES 2002/2003 PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT SLATE AND A NEW
COMMUNITY RELATIONS INITIATIVE IN
Producer Josh Miller, president of Minds Eye Entertainment Alberta, announced that in addition to this year's returning series, Mentors and MythQuest, a new travel series, Great Cemeteries of the World, a co-production with Edmonton-based Souleado Entertainment will premiere on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30pm on Prime TV. "We are proud to be a part of reestablishing a place for Alberta in the Canadian film and television industry," says Josh Miller. "With three Alberta-based television series on the slate and with much more to come - we are pleased to be expanding production in Alberta." Mentors, a co-production with Anaïd Productions, will begin principal photography for its fourth season in Edmonton in July 2002. The series follows the adventures of young brother and sister team, Simon (Stevie Mitchell) and Crystal Cates (Samantha Krutzfeldt) after their cousin, Oliver (Chad Krowchuk), bestows his invention, the VisiCron, to them. Using this ingenious computer program, the two zap historical figures into their 21st century lives to help them solve a particular challenge they've encountered. Along the way, the mentors reveal surprising, little-known facts about themselves. A two-time Gemini Award winner, Mentors has recently been nominated for nine AMPIA awards. Sold to 50 countries around the world, the series is currently broadcasting on Discovery Kids in the U.S and will return to the Family Channel in Canada this fall. Named as a "Top Ten Quality Show" by TV Guide U.S., MythQuest will return for its second season this summer. The family drama series stars Christopher Jacot (Tagged: The Jonathan Wamback Story) and Meredith Henderson (The Adventures of Shirley Holmes) as a brother and sister team searching for their father in a mysterious cyberworld of ancient mythology. MythQuest is currently broadcasting on PBS in the U.S. and CBC Television in Canada. Random House Children's Books division plans to launch the MythQuest companion book series in January 2003. The book series will be marketed to schools, libraries, Internet and major book retailers across North America. Great Cemeteries of the World, a co-production with Edmonton-based Souleado Entertainment, explores the residents, history, architecture and mystique of the most renowned cemeteries of the world. The 26 episode travel/biography series explores each legendary cemetery's origin and history and will reveal the stories of its most fascinating inhabitants. The series will explore the contributions made by some of the world's most famous authors, composers, actors, business tycoons, political leaders, inventors and scientists. Great Cemeteries of the World will premiere on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30pm on Prime TV. Two of Minds Eye Entertainment' projects in development include: the television movie The Andy Seidemann Story for the A-Channel, in which a small town Canadian Mountie tenaciously pursues a child molester in order to bring him to justice. Also on the development slate is the television movie Heartstrings, for WTN, which centers around an aspiring country music singer and a big city music producer and their second chance at love, set in Edmonton and Stony Plain, Alberta.
