MIDSUMMER’S NIGHT DREAMING OF MENTORS

(June 22, 2001)…Numerous awards, broadcasts around the world, respected guest stars, filming a third season – such stuff television dreams are made on and for the team behind Mentors, a wonderful dream come true! Anaïd Productions and Minds Eye Entertainment are pleased to announce the cameras are rolling once more as Mentors begins filming 13 episodes in and around Edmonton. In producing quality television, the teleplay’s the thing and who better to start Season III rolling than the Bard himself, portrayed by noted Stratford actor Stephen Ouimette (Heater, Conspiracy of Silence) and directed by Fred Frame (Incredible Story Studio).

Mentors follows the adventures of young brother and sister team, Simon and Crystal Cates, after their cousin, Oliver, bestows his invention, VisiCron, to them. Using this ingenious computer program, Simon and Crystal zap historical figures into their 21st Century lives to help them solve a particular challenge they’ve encountered. Along the way, the mentors reveal surprising, little-known facts about themselves, adding new hues to their already colourful lives.

In this week’s episode, entitled Such Stuff as Dreams Are Made On, the kids’ father, Norm, is suffering from a bad case of writer’s block. Simon and Crystal call upon William Shakespeare (Stephen Ouimette) for a little inspiration. They soon discover, however, that too much of a good thing can be disastrous as Norm finds himself deciding between the Great White Way and a happy family life at home.

Having seen Stephen Ouimette perform here in Edmonton in productions at the Citadel Theatre and knowing of his involvement in so many quality productions at Stratford, it was clear to us that Stephen’s affinity for-- and familiarity with-- the words of William Shakespeare would make him the ideal choice to play the Bard,” comments Producer, Josh Miller.

All the world’s a stage for Mentors,” adds Producer, Margaret Mardirossian, “as this series is also broadcast in 74 countries around the globe.

Mentors was created by Josh Miller of Minds Eye Entertainment who is producing the series with Margaret Mardirossian of Anaïd Productions with Kevin DeWalt of Minds Eye Entertainment as Executive Producer. The series features Stevie Mitchell (Real Kids – Real Adventures) as Simon, Samantha Krutzfeldt (Orange Seed Myth & Other Lies Mothers Tell) as his sister Crystal, Brian Martell (Texas Rangers) as their father Norm Cates and Jane Sowerby (The Young Person’s Guide To Becoming a Rock Star) as their mother, Peggy.

Historic mentors from the first two seasons include Frederick Banting (Matt Frewer in a Gemini Award-winning performance), Albert Einstein (Elliott Gould), Lewis Carroll (Thomas Cavanagh), Napoleon Bonaparte (Saul Rubinek), Ludwig van Beethoven (Henry Czerny), Daniel Boone (Roddy Piper), Dr. James Naismith (Joe Flaherty), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (William B. Davis), Queen Elizabeth I (Margot Kidder), Casanova (Tony Rosato) as well as Dave Thomas as Oliver’s science teacher, Al Sherman.
