(August 10, 2000)…Guiding Mentors through an episode filled with intrigue and adventure on the mighty North Saskatchewan River is the legendary Sacagawea, noted for her role as a guide for the famous Lewis & Clark expedition. Guest star Michelle St. John (Smoke Signals, Pocohontas) portrays the Shoshone Indian guide and explorer.
Renowned stunt performer/coordinator/director Betty Thomas (The Crow, John Woo’s Once A Thief) goes behind the lens for her episodic directorial debut. Produced by Anaïd Productions and Minds Eye Entertainment, Mentors is currently filming 13 episodes in and around Edmonton for its second season.
Mentors follows the adventures of young computer genius Oliver and his friend Dee as they zap historical figures into their 21st century lives via an ingenious computer program. Each mentor is called upon to help the kids solve a particular challenge they’ve encountered. Along the way, the mentors reveal surprising, little-known facts about themselves, adding new hues to their already colourful lives.
In this week’s episode entitle The Glory Trail, Dee (Sarah Lind) and Oliver (Chad Krowchuk) enlist Sacagawea (Michelle St. John) to help them expose a refinery that is surreptitiously polluting a river. After overcoming numerous challenges and dangers on the “expedition,” Sacagawea helps Dee to realize that receiving credit for one’s deeds is not as important as the act itself.
Mentors was created by Josh Miller of Minds Eye Entertainment who is producing the series with Margaret Mardirossian of Anaïd Productions with Kevin DeWalt of Minds Eye Entertainment as Executive Producer. The series features Chad Krowchuk (Jake and the Kid) as Oliver, Belinda Metz (So Weird) as his mother Anne, Shaun Johnston (Traders) as his father Roy, and Sarah Lind (Incredible Story Studio) as his best friend, Dee.
