THE LOST DAUGHTER: A DEADLY COMBINATION OF TALENT AND CULTURE
Released: August 26, 1996
(Regina, Canada) - Cameras are now rolling on the Canadian set of the 2-part television drama The Lost Daughter. Filming will take place in and around the Regina area for the next five weeks and wrap up in Montreal in early October.
The Lost Daughter is the story of a father's attempt to find his daughter after she becomes entangled in a religious sect and eventually disappears. Richard Chamberlain (Shogun, The Thornbirds, The Bourne Identity), stars as Andrew McCracken and Claire Sims (The Marked Man, Sirens) plays the role of his daughter Laurie. Susanna Simon (Wolff Revier) is Catherine, Laurie's friend and former roommate who aids McCracken in his search; Helmut Griem (The Damned, Caberet) is Rolf Sutter, Laurie's uncle and the man responsible for introducing her to the sect; and Christoph Ohrt (Eurocops, Jacob) stars as the charismatic sect leader, Bernard Sicard. The Lost Daughter is a fictional story, and while it is inspired by actual incidents, it is not a portrayal of any actual persons or events.
A co-production of Condor Films of Zurich and Minds Eye Entertainment of Regina, the project remains true to its international roots, with an international crew of 45 Europeans and 76 Canadians (55 of whom are from Saskatchewan), and an exciting agenda of drama, special effects and stunning visual artistry.
The next 5 weeks of principal photography will be highlighted by:
Major acting talents. Richard Chamberlain, North America's biggest television series star finds a worthy adversary (and contemporary) in Helmut Griem, one of Europe's most popular film actors!
High-tech special effects. Gajdecki Visual Effects of Toronto (Friday the 13th, TekWar, Outer Limits) will recreate powerful scenes from the script, including a ghostlike "vision" of the Solar Knight who walks among the sect members and the sect temple that will become an inferno of gas and fire!
Collaborative efforts. Swiss-German, French and Canadian crew will combine their talents in wardrobe, set decoration and graphics, for spectacular visual results. In the most sensational scenes, a studio set is transformed into an elaborate smoke-filled temple where white-robed sect members pay homage to their leader!
Cultural diversity. European and Canadian actors will work as a team to tell a complex story of international intrigue. Actors from across Canada - including Saskatchewan and Quebec - will fill leading roles along with their talented counterparts from Switzerland and Germany!
A vocal fusion. English, German and French are routinely spoken on set which makes for an interesting sound mix!

(Canada), Allarcom Television Limited (Superchannel), Evergreen Releasing Ltd. (Toronto), Telefilm Canada and The Cable Production Fund.
