IT'S
THE YEAR 2030 AND TEENAGERS RULE THE WORLD! January 9, 2002 (Regina, SK) - Imagine thirty years into the future a civilization recovering from the brink of social, economic and environmental collapse .and ruled completely by teenagers. Producers Minds Eye Entertainment, Buffalo Gal Pictures and co-producers Angela Bruce Productions and Yan Moore Productions present 2030CE, a new 13-part action adventure youth series slated to premiere on February 6 at 7:30pm ET on YTV. It is the year 2030 of the Common Era (CE) and in order to rescue the world from the brink of catastrophe, government, business and the scientific community formed an alliance. United under the name Nexes, the new society created a vibrant new world of employment, clean air and leisure and returned stability and order to a post-apocalyptic planet. However, a mysterious virus identified as Progressive Aging Syndrome (P.A.S.), has plagued the population of Nexes, causing certain death by the age of thirty. The result is a brave new world where kids rule - as medical specialists and geneticists at fourteen, law enforcement officers and environmental experts at twenty and community elders at twenty-eight. With no apparent escape from the deadly virus, Nexes' young medical team are committed to finding a cure or are they? United in their suspicion of Nexes, 2030CE centers on the idealistic and handsome Hart (Corey Sevier, Lassie: The Series, Little Men), his worldly-wise sister Rome (Tatiana Maslany, Incredible Story Studio) and his new ally, the beautiful and enigmatic Jakki (Jessica Lucas, Edgemont). When Hart learns that his genetic makeup will predispose him to the deadly virus, he is determined to discover the cause of the disease and uncover the true intentions behind Nexes' Orwellian regime. Ultimately, the rebel trio find themselves in a race against time - and a race to save their own lives. "The concept
behind 2030CE is like the ultimate teenage fantasy world,"
says executive producer Kevin DeWalt. "Given the choice, what
teenager doesn't secretly wish that they were making decisions and running
the world?" "This is an adventure story, a thriller with chases and humour. But what makes the show unique is the world in which it's set, where kids run everything. No Mom or Dad to save the day here!" says Moore. 2030CE broke new ground in production financing. For the first time in Canada, three provincial film and television funding agencies have united to invest in a television series. The provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta joined forces to invest in the production of 2030CE. The series was filmed in Winnipeg in the summer of 2001.
