| NSI’s future filmmakers visit 2030CE! WINNIPEG – The set of 2030CE is the backdrop for The National Screen Institute’s “Movie Camp” today giving 32 future filmmakers the excellent opportunity of seeing a professional film set in action. The camp is an annual two week event held in Winnipeg and Toronto for kids ages 14-19 and culminates each year with a field trip to a real film set. The futuristic set of 2030CE is ideal for the NSI to complete their 2001 summer camp. 2030CE is set shortly after the turn of the century when the world faces a period of social, economic and environmental collapse. United under the name Nexes, governments, business and science came together to save humanity. It’s a new world of full employment, clean air and new emphasis on sport, leisure and recreation. But it’s not a perfect place yet. Most mysterious is Progressive Aging Syndrome, a virus that kills the populace at the ripe old age of 30. The result is a world where kids rule – graduates of medical school at 14, school principals at 18, senior management at 24. What more could one want? A longer life span for one. The producers of 2030CE were thrilled to accommodate the NSI’s request to visit their set. Phyllis Laing of Buffalo Gal Pictures says, “This is a tremendously creative project, and we’re so thrilled that it’s being shot here in Manitoba. What better way to give back to aspiring Canadian filmmakers then to assist the NSI with their invaluable Move Camp.” Operating for 15 years, this year’s “Movie Camp” is the first time the NSI has offered a more advanced level of learning where each student attending has taken the introductory camp at least once in previous years. Executive Director Cheryl Ashton says, “We were thrilled that 2030CE agreed to take us on a tour of their set. The students are extremely excited to be meeting the cast and crew.” 2030CE is a Saskatchewan-Alberta-Manitoba co-production. Producing partners are Minds Eye Entertainment, Buffalo Gal Pictures, Yan Moore Productions, and Angela Bruce Productions. Executive Producers are Kevin DeWalt and Diedre Gilchrist. Producers are Yan Moore, Josh Miller and Rhonda Baker.
